OKANOGAN, Wash. AP – A man accused of fatally shooting a prominent Seattle-area sound engineer through his motel room door because he mistakenly thought someone was trying to break in has fled, leaving his family a letter saying he would rather die than lose his freedom, court documents said.

The letter was in a request filed Monday by Okanogan County Prosecutor Karl F. Sloan in Superior Court to obtain a no-bail arrest warrant for Kino Michael Gomez of Seattle.
