Why do it Why commit your free time to pro bono work It’s a reasonable question. One response could be because the bar rules suggest it. Another could be because it’s the right thing to do. Or, it’s good experience. And all of those are true. Honestly, though, the best reason is because it matters.

For me, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s Domestic Violence Project has been a meaningful way to help victims get protection from their abusers through our court system. This is a story about one of them, Maria T.
