Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling that terrorist suspects imprisoned at the U.S. naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have a constitutional right to challenge their detention in federal court was met with jubilation and relief by local lawyers representing 15 detainees. Their clients include Salim A. Hamdan, who served as Osama bin Laden’s driver and bodyguard.

“The Supreme Court has restored my faith in our judicial system,” said Kristin B. Wilhelm of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, who, with John A. Chandler and other Sutherland lawyers, represents seven detainees from Yemen.
