PROVIDENCE, R.I. AP – A judge in the federal corruption trial of two former CVS executives denied a request for a mistrial on Tuesday but took the unusual step of giving defense lawyers the option to question the government’s star witness again about what they believe are his lies under oath.

Lawyers for Carlos Ortiz and John R. Kramer asked U.S. District Judge Mary Lisi to grant a mistrial and dismiss the charges. The two former vice presidents at the Woonsocket-based pharmacy chain are accused of paying former state Sen. John Celona to advance CVS’s legislative agenda.
