When he’s not practicing law at Drew Eckl & Farnham in Midtown Atlanta, Daniel C. Kniffen is living on the golf course at Chteau lan Winery & Resort in Braselton. The one-hour commute on Interstate 85 can be brutal at times, but the resort lifestyle and natural beauty of the golf course make the drive endurable, says Kniffen, 48. “From an aesthetic standpoint, it’s a beautiful place to live,” he says. “And it’s a great place to raise a family. There’s a lot of room to run and play. I really love living there and love playing golf there.”

As the population of metro Atlanta has swelled over the last two decades, so has the proliferation of residential neighborhoods built around golf courses. Some lawyers-whether they are empty nesters, soon-to-be retirees or raising families-are attracted to golf course communities for the open-space outdoors, the affluent lifestyle and the abundance of golf. But prospective buyers should do their due diligence.
