A low-key campaign for the state Court of Appeals appears to have produced two candidates for a Dec. 2 runoff � Holland & Knight partner Sara L. Doyle and Lawrenceville criminal defense attorney Michael M. Sheffield.
As of 7:13 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Secretary of State’s office reported that with 96 percent of the precincts reporting, Doyle had received 583,307 votes, or 22.6 percent, and Sheffield had received 543,386 votes, or 21.1 percent. They appeared far ahead of the third-place candidate, Lawrenceville divorce lawyer Tamela L. Adkins, who had 484,846, or 18.8 percent. The other candidates finished as follows: Decatur appellate lawyer Christopher J. McFadden with 12.4 percent, Atlanta litigator Bruce M. Edenfield at 9.9 percent, former state senator Perry J. McGuire was last with 8 percent and state Sen. Michael S. Meyer von Bremen, D-Albany had 7.3 percent .
