A gathering organized Thursday by a judicial campaign ethics group urged candidates for an open seat on the Georgia Court of Appeals to avoid negative campaigning and other acts common in other political races.

Five of the seven candidates for the seat participated in Thursday’s “convocation” by the Georgia Committee for Ethical Judicial Campaigns. Three of the candidates, Sara L. Doyle, Bruce M. Edenfield and Christopher J. McFadden, immediately signed the group’s pledge to conduct themselves-and their campaign surrogates-”in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity, independence and impartiality of the judiciary.”
