LITTLE ROCK, Ark. AP – A proposed state-run lottery was cleared by the Arkansas Supreme Court on Thursday to appear on the Nov. 4 ballot as justices rejected a claim that approving the measure could pave the way to full-fledged casino gambling.
The Arkansas Family Council had argued that language authorizing a state lottery was overly broad and could lead to the elimination of the Arkansas Constitution’s prohibition against many types of gambling. Lottery backers said the initiative is sufficiently narrow.
