It wasn’t Bobby Jones’ win at the 1927 Southern Open or Tiger Woods’ victory last year at the Tour Championship, but East Lake Golf Club this month hosted another landmark golf event-in legal circles at least: the inaugural Hays Cup.

Named for the chiefs of King & Spalding Robert and Alston & Bird Richard, the event featured 10 lawyers from each firm squaring off in a Ryder Cup-style match.
