AP – UnitedHealth Group Inc. will close a much-criticized database health insurers have used for years to determine payment rates and help start a more impartial successor under an agreement announced Tuesday by the New York attorney general’s office.
The Minnetonka, Minn.-based insurer will pay $50 million to establish the new database, which will be run by a nonprofit organization. It will be used to determine reimbursement rates for patients who receive health care from providers outside their insurance network.
