A Fulton County jury has rejected claims by the state Department of Transportation that a South Georgia road-paving company should pay $3.3 million for causing potholes in a stretch on Interstate 95 near Darien.
While the state could prevail on appeal and has other cases against Douglas Asphalt Co. pending, the Jan. 13 loss means the DOT has so far spent $4.9 million in vain fighting the company, according to figures from state Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker’s office.
