The head of a local volunteer legal group is getting a unique perspective on how the recession is affecting the legal community.
Rachel Epps Spears, executive director of the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta, said lawyers who have been laid off are withdrawing their representation while employment lawyers who still have jobs can’t help her because they are too busy working for paying clients. Graduating law students, however, are begging for volunteer work because they aren’t getting hired and want some way to gain experience.
