Gibson Guitar Corp. has picked Joel A. Cherry, a musician and veteran entertainment executive, as its general counsel, senior vice president and corporate secretary.

Cherry, whose legal work for Gibson involves litigation, intellectual property, transactions and matters related to artist endorsements, has spent about 25 years representing recording artists as a lawyer and manager. Before joining Gibson, a musical instrument maker based in Nashville, Tenn., Cherry had his own music management company. He also has managed business affairs for one of the country’s largest record labels and practiced entertainment law in Atlanta.
