Legislation that would give the governor and Legislature full control of the state’s indigent defense system moved a step closer to passage Friday.
A House committee on Friday morning approved legislation to remove policy-making authority from the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council. The House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee approved Senate Bill 42 by a vote of 5-4.
