On a recent Tuesday, Cobb County Superior Court Judge Dorothy A. Robinson recessed a criminal trial at 4 p.m., instructing the jury to keep quiet about the case and return promptly at 9 a.m. the next day. Then she turned her attention to a crowd of lawyers, defendants and potential witnesses who had just arrived for another round of pleadings that kept her on the bench until nearly 6 p.m.

“She believes if she’s here, she should be in the courtroom hearing cases. She enjoys it,” said Peggy Massey-who has worked with the judge for a decade, first as courtroom clerk for eight years and more recently as administrative assistant. Massey told a reporter that the judge puts in long days in court and does not have time for interviews.
