With Newt Gingrich, his top client, eyeballing a possible run for president in 2012, J. Randolph “Randy” Evans plans to step down as general counsel of the state Republican Party in May. Anne W. Lewis, a partner at Strickland Brockington Lewis, will succeed him.

In addition to his work for Gingrich, Evans said he’s been asked to do more work for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and the Republican Governors Association, and for new Republican National Committee chairman Michael S. Steele.
