The first time Atlanta law professor David J. Bederman argued at the U.S. Supreme Court, in 1992, he represented a widow pursuing a wrongful death action against the U.S. government. Her husband had died after he fell through the ice while working for a U.S. government agency in Antarctica.

Bederman lost that case, 8-1, but his Supreme Court track record has improved considerably. Last Tuesday he picked up his third win in a case he argued at the high court-although his client is unlikely to get the same kind of sympathy as his first Supreme Court client.
