A Democratic state representative is resigning from the Legislature because the Attorney General’s office said it was illegal for her to work as a Fulton County prosecutor while serving as a lawmaker.

Rep. Robbin Shipp, D-Atlanta, planned to submit her resignation letter to Gov. Sonny Perdue on Monday, said Yvette Brown, a spokeswoman for Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr. Shipp is an assistant district attorney for Fulton County. A special election would be held this year to fill Shipp’s seat, according to the Georgia Code.
