Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue told Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears late Monday afternoon that he is cutting the state judiciary’s June budget by 25 percent, despite her and others’ objections that the move is unconstitutional.

“I can appreciate the difficulty that the Judicial Branch finds itself in,” Perdue wrote to Sears. But he added that the the state Constitution requires him to cut the judiciary’s budget by the same proportion as all other agencies.
