The Atlanta Public Schools has reached a $180,000 settlement with the former head of the school district’s largest teacher union.

The Atlanta school board approved the settlement last month. The teacher, Lynda Wolfe Smith, had sued the school district when it refused to let her withdraw a request to retire. Smith’s lawyer, Clements & Sweet partner Michael E. Kramer, filed a civil rights suit in federal court in May 2006.
