When you train up to 25 hours a week and spend thousands of dollars on specialized gear-but drive a 12-year-old car to pay for your passion-you have perhaps reached an elite level in an endurance sport that is for neither the faint of heart nor body nor wallet.

Drew Marlar is of counsel at Kutak Rock where he specializes in affordable housing work. Marlar, 39, will compete in his fifth Ironman Triathlon in Louisville in August. His real hope is that he will do well enough in the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike race and 26.2-mile marathon run to qualify to compete in the October Ironman World Championship at Kona, Hawaii.
