As an avid golf fan and curious student of the game, I have followed the career of Tiger Woods since he was a junior golfer.

Woods first registered in my golf conscious in 1994 when, at age 18, he won the U.S. Amateur at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The image of a young, scrawny Woods sinking a birdie putt from the fringe of the diabolical 17th island green will forever be ingrained in my memory bank. I don’t need to look at any archived photos or video footage to remember that Woods was wearing shorts, a striped shirt and a wide-brimmed straw golf hat on that memorable day.
