A PROPOSAL IN the General Assembly to loosen restrictions on billboard companies’ ability to cut trees around their signs will hurt Georgia’s economic development efforts, according to a Troutman Sanders partner who works on land-use issues.

A 75-foot limit would be imposed on the height of billboards, according to two separate bills filed in the state House and Senate. There is no current limit on billboard height in Georgia, and many billboards would be lowered if the legislation is approved. Some billboards in the state top 200 feet.
