THE STOCK MARKET’S recent downturn could slow the rapid pace of deals in local attorneys’ pipelines-or perhaps shift the tide of acquisitions away from private equity funds, two Atlanta lawyers said.

The stocks that make up the Dow Jones industrial average last week had their worst week since March 2003, dropping 4.2 percent, according to The Wall Street Journal. Other averages also declined-the Standard & Poor’s 500 dropped 4.9 percent and the Nasdaq Composite fell 4.7 percent. The drop came after the Dow hit 14,000 for the first time earlier in July.
