SAVANNAH, Ga. AP – Saying police “shoot first and ask questions later” in black neighborhoods, the Rev. Al Sharpton spoke out Thursday for the family of a Savannah man shot dead during a traffic stop by police, who say he attempted to run over an officer while fleeing.

The New York civil rights activist was cheered by about 300 people who crammed the Second St. John Missionary Baptist Church in west Savannah late Thursday, 11 days after an officer’s bullet killed 23-year-old David Willis.
