A federal judge has compared the legal arguments of some Jones Day lawyers to an old Woody Allen joke.

The lawyers, Jones Day partners G. Lee Garrett Jr. and Janine Cone Metcalf, who are defending Southern Co. in a $2 billion dispute involving its former subsidiary, Mirant, had argued that a witness proffered by their opposing counsel was unprepared for a deposition that lasted 14 hours. They had asked the judge to grant them another seven hours’ deposition time-with the same witness.
