The State Ethics Commission on Thursday dismissed a complaint alleging that J. Michael Wiggins had illegally coordinated with a coalition of business groups in waging his failed 2006 campaign for the state Supreme Court.

Atlanta attorney Gary B. Andrews had filed the complaint a few weeks before the November 2006 election, which Presiding Justice Carol W. Hunstein won convincingly over Wiggins. Andrews contended that the Safety & Prosperity Coalition violated rules forbidding independent groups, which are not subject to contribution limits like candidate campaign committees, from coordinating their expenditures with a candidate’s campaign.
