REPUBLICAN PERRY J. MCGUIRE believes he’s picking up ground in his challenge to Attorney General Thurbert E. Baker, and McGuire is willing to put $400,000 of his own money into the race to prove it.

Poll numbers released by McGuire’s campaign this week show that Baker leads McGuire 42 percent to 28 percent. Baker, a Democrat, seeks his third full term as head of the Georgia Department of Law. McGuire is a former Republican state senator from Douglasville and a former in-house counsel with Chick-fil-A Inc. He is unopposed in the Republican primary.
