A FEDERAL APPEALS COURT has ruled that Atlanta-based National Service Industries cannot be held liable for pollution committed decades ago by a business that the company later purchased.
King & Spalding’s Patricia T. Barmeyer, who represented National Service Industries, or NSI, said the decision could make companies more willing to buy businesses that have potential pollution liabilities under the federal Superfund law.
