WHEN GERRY HULL, president and CEO of Kennesaw-based Automated Logic Corp., decided to use some of his wealth to help kids get through college, he took a hands-on approach.

Rather than donate to college scholarship funds, he created the GKW Foundation to provide grants to students who need help to bridge the gap between college loans and the cost of tuition. Hull selects the recipients personally and has seen kids graduate from Harvard University, Yale University, Cornell University and the University of Virginia.
