Shinji Morokuma is the new director of the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, succeeding Leila C. Taaffe, who relocated with her husband to Washington. Morokuma was hired as the office’s deputy director in 1998, after receiving his law degree from the Georgia State University College of Law but left in 2001 to establish a private family law and mediation practice. The office registers all ADR practitioners who work with Georgia courts and sets training standards for mediators and neutrals. Morokuma said that in 1990 only three counties in Georgia offered ADR through the courts, but now 102 of Georgia’s 159 counties, including most of metro Atlanta, offer some form of mediation.
