WASHINGTON AP – No state had more to gain than Georgia when Congress took up legislation last week designating almost a dozen areas across the country as national heritage sites.
One of the sites, a rustic area known as Arabia Mountain, sits in the shadows of Atlanta’s urban sprawl. Another, the proposed Gullah/Geechee heritage corridor, runs along the Georgia coast as it winds from the Carolinas to Florida. Each designation would come with an authorization for federal grants totaling up to $10 million.
