IF IT’S SUCCESSFUL in its hostile takeover bid of Delta Airlines, US Airways Group Inc. will face the thorny issue of how to deal with employee unions.

The thorniest issue, according to employment attorneys, would be how to combine the seniority lists of the Delta and US Airways pilots unions. “Merging pilot seniority lists is always nasty,” said Fisher & Phillips partner E. Scott Smith in Atlanta, who represents airline management.
