ATLANTA AP – For weeks, Georgia lawmakers have lambasted Congress for its inaction in bailing out PeachCare, the state’s cash-strapped health insurance program for poor children. Now, critics say, it’s the state legislators who are the ones holding things up as a budget plan that poured millions of dollars into PeachCare has become mired in a power struggle between the House and the Senate.

The impasse at the state Capitol threatens money destined for PeachCare and the public defender system, both of which are nearly broke and are depending on the infusion of state cash to stay afloat.
