AFTER SPENDING more than a century in the political wilderness, Republicans now dominate Georgia politics, having controlled the governor’s office and General Assembly since 2003. But Democrats still hold some offices, and Republicans covet none more than that of attorney general.

“The attorney general’s office is far and away the most important office that Republicans do not hold,” said Holland & Knight senior counsel Robert S. Highsmith Jr., a former deputy counsel to Gov. Sonny Perdue.
