I KNOW A corporate lawyer for a large firm who had competed with several firms for a chance to represent a medium-sized company. While the company’s general counsel liked this lawyer, he lost because of the firm’s high rates.
But this lawyer wasn’t discouraged. He nurtured the relationship with the general counsel, inviting him to events, sending news updates and even leaving voice mails where he would boldly and jokingly sign off saying, “Call us when you’re ready to hire a real lawyer.”
