LEE IACOCCA CAMPAIGNED for George W. Bush in 2000 even though he’d never met him. After Bush won, his then chief of staff, Andy Card, called to offer an ambassadorship; Iacocca said he’d consider Italy. Alas, the country of his forebears was already taken.
So it doesn’t quite track when Iacocca, in his new book, “Where Have All the Leaders Gone” serves up a harangue on the evils of cronyism. Americans have lost the connection “between politics and public service,” he writes. No argument with that. But is Iacocca the best guy to be telling us
