THE ASSOCIATE SALARY WAVE is rolling again, this time in Washington where some big firms have raised pay for first-year lawyers from $145,000 to $160,000 a year. That is the amount big New York firms started paying in January, triggering raises around the country.

It is unclear whether lawyers with Atlanta firms that have offices in the nation’s capital will benefit from the most recent moves.
