THE 10 ASSOCIATES in the Atlanta office of intellectual property boutique Fish & Richardson have become the first in the city to benefit from a pay-increase trend that began last week in New York and has been rippling around the country.

Fish & Richardson will pay first-year associates $160,000 a year, a $25,000 jump from the $135,000 the firm was paying newly-minted lawyers. The firm announced Monday that the new scale, which will be retroactive to Jan. 1, applies to all of its U.S. offices and to all levels of associates. Salaries of seventh-year associates increased $50,000, from $215,000 to $265,000.
