MIAMI AP – A jury was seated Tuesday to hear evidence in the trial of alleged al-Qaida operative Jose Padilla and two co-defendants on charges of being part of a North American support cell for Islamic extremists around the world.
The jury of seven men and five women, plus six alternates, was selected from a final pool of 88 people after nearly a month of individual questioning by a federal judge, prosecutors and defense attorneys. Opening statements are scheduled to begin Monday in a trial expected to last into August.
