A woman who sued Grady Memorial Hospital after she was involuntarily checked in for a psychiatric evaluation left court empty-handed last week when a jury decided the hospital had performed its duties in keeping her overnight after a HERO truck driver came to her assistance on the side of the highway and became concerned about her behavior.

Because the court ordered the jury to decide liability before hearing any evidence of damage claims, there was never any evidence offered as to how or to what degree she might have suffered from her 21-hour stay at the hospital, said Taylor English Duma partner Paul Munger, Grady’s lead defense attorney.
