Arriving back at work following the annual NALP-The Association for Legal Career Professionals conference, I always feel an incredible amount of positive energy. This was especially true this year. I enjoy catching up with old friends, picking up takeaways from the various sessions and, perhaps most importantly, glimpsing the future of legal hiring.

The NALP conference (held this year in Austin, Texas, in April) allows career professionals to learn from each other and to see the big picture. Given the challenges of the current economy, it was no surprise that some of the best-attended sessions had to do with alternative careers, alternative staffing models, maximizing relationships with smaller firms and bridge-to-practice programs. One theme was the need to broaden our understanding of possible career options for law students.
