Governor Nathan Deal’s commission that advises him on judicial appointments confirmed that it will draw nominees for two state Court of Appeals vacancies from one applicant pool — mostly lawyers passed over for a recently filled Supreme Court spot.

Judicial Nominating Commission co-chairman J. Randolph “Randy” Evans said Friday that the panel will interview applicants on July 24 to replace Keith Blackwell, whom Deal tapped last month to replace retiring Supreme Court Chief Justice George Carley, and Charles Mikell, who said July 12 he would retire at the end of August.
