Atlanta lawyer Lauren Becker, 58, died at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York on July 17. Her funeral service was held at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs on July 22 and was attended by family and friends, including many Atlanta attorneys.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1954, Lauren initially attended the University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a program to become a bioethicist. I learned at the funeral from Lauren’s father, Hal, that Lauren became captivated with the law during a summer break when she attended a trial in Iowa relating to a dispute concerning a hotel her father owned.
