Last year, Brooks won a defense verdict in a lawsuit brought against him by a bank claiming he owed it $3.9 million, plus interest and fees. His total exposure from the trial, during which he mentioned on the stand that he had been awarded the medals, was $5 million, according to his lawyer, Cary Ichter of IchterThomas.
