RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A lawyer defending the North Carolina General Assembly’s latest redistricting maps says groups suing over the boundaries have provided no proof that lines could be drawn better and still comply with state and federal laws and court cases.
Alec Peters with the state Attorney General’s Office argued Tuesday before a three-judge panel considering lawsuits over maps for seats at the legislature and for North Carolina’s congressional delegation. Democratic voters and advocacy groups want the maps declared unconstitutional. They had their say Monday.
