An attorney for a 6-year-old girl who was left sightless by complications of her premature birth said he will appeal a defense verdict won by two doctors accused of failing to properly treat the child.

"Obviously, [the] plaintiffs are extremely disappointed in the outcome," said Richard Shapiro of Bradenton, Fla., who represents Kaitlyn Scarpaci Garrett and Sean Garrett and their daughter, Aubrey.
