The false arrest of a witness in a state ethics investigation of a Murray County magistrate judge last summer stemmed from the judge’s tip to a county deputy, lawyers for both have told the Daily Report.

Then-Murray County Magistrate Judge Bryant Cochran didn’t tell Capt. Michael Henderson, who was Cochran’s first cousin, how he came by the information that a car belonging to the state’s witness would be hauling drugs, Henderson’s attorney said last week.
