Burr & Forman’s work to provide free legal assistance in the areas of health and elder law has earned it the State Bar of Georgia’s William Spann Jr. Award. The award recognizes work by a local bar association, law firm or community organization "that has satisfied previously unmet needs or extended services to underserved segments of the population," according to the bar.

Burr & Forman won for its involvement in establishing guardianships in cases where non-parent caregivers are needed to make health care decisions for ill adults or minor children. Much of that work was done through the Atlanta Legal Aid Society’s Health Law Partnership and Seniors Legal Hotline programs.
