Walter W. Davis sat on a bench outside the auditorium at Vanderbilt University Law School chatting with students about summer employment while waiting for the presentation, "Law School Recruiting: A Hiring Partner's Perspective" to begin. The only difference was that Davis, as the hiring partner at Jones Day, had returned to his law school alma mater to give the presentation.

"Walt has grown accustomed to being the youngest decision-maker in the courtroom, boardroom or conference room—and it doesn't matter what hat he's wearing—litigator, law firm administrator or nonprofit director," says Atlanta partner-in-charge Lizanne Thomas. "That day at Vanderbilt, Walt was mistaken for a first-year law student instead of our hiring partner and summer program coordinator in charge of our 130-attorney Atlanta office."
